Responsible Amazon Rainforest Tours in Peru

Our Peru rainforest tour options let you immerse yourself in this extraordinary environment. The iconic Amazon Rainforest is as world-famous as it is mysterious.

Wildlife abounds, yet there are no guarantees on what you might see. Perhaps pink river dolphins or the Leoncito Monkey (the smallest in the world); maybe caimans or the elusive jaguar. On our Peru jungle tours, anything is possible!

Beyond the diverse wildlife, we encourage you to experience local life here in the Amazon. You’ll meet and stay with locals who can share stories and teach you traditional ways. We don’t want you to just visit the Amazon, we want you to truly experience this place.

The different jungle destinations in Peru

The jungle occupies around 60% of Peru’s vast territory so you will understand that there are many subdestinations here. These are sometimes very far apart and all have their own pros and contras. Some of our favourites jungle destinations in Peru are:

The jungle around Puerto Maldonado, Madre de Dios

This jungle, famous for the Tambopata National Reserve, is the easiest accessible jungle and the best choice for most travelers. It offers many levels of jungle experience; from introductions to deep-in-the-woods, for all kinds of nature lovers. Some of Peru’s best jungle lodges are located here, as well. Learn how to plan your responsible trip to the jungle around Puerto Maldonado here.

The Manu park, in Cusco and Madre de Dios

This jungle is the best choice for birdwatchers and offers more authentic human interactions than the area around Puerto Maldonado. The biggest difference between Manu and Puerto Maldonado is that you travel by land, and the trip to Manu is simply spectacular. It adds the whole experience of the cloud forest to your jungle trip. As such, flora and fauna are much more diverse. This access also has its downside: it takes quite a few hours on unpaved roads and can be easily influenced by landslides when there are heavy rains. Learn everything about Manu and its native population in our Travel Guide.

The jungle around Iquitos, Loreto department

Iquitos is a very unique city, and the vast jungle around it is full of endemic species that still draw a lot of nature lovers to this northeastern corner of Peru. Due to its location, access is more expensive than in other jungle areas, and travel time over the river is also longer than in some other parts of the Peruvian jungle. However, the pink river dolphins or giant water lilies are just a few of the many unique features of this area that you won’t find in the other parts of Peru. Find out more in our Travel Guide for Iquitos.

The jungle around Tarapoto, San Martin department

Discover Tarapoto, the enchanting city in north-central Peru. From its stunning natural surroundings and rich cultural heritage to its off-the-beaten-path tourism and diverse attractions, Tarapoto offers an unforgettable experience. Explore the captivating Cordillera Escalera Conservation Area, immerse yourself in the local Quechua-Amazonian communities, or indulge in the eco-friendly lodges. Don’t miss the unique traditions and the breathtaking beauty of this region. Find out more in our Tarapoto Travel Guide
