Departing from our base on the shores of the Paracas Peninsula (Atenas area), this guided kayak tour offers a unique and peaceful way to explore the natural beauty of Paracas Bay.
We begin paddling northeast, gliding over the scallop farms, where your guide will explain how this local delicacy is sustainably cultivated. From there, we continue toward the bay’s deepest point, marked by a historic lighthouse, before changing course and heading south.
Our next stop is Punta Ballenas, a quiet spot known for its abundant birdlife—including flamingos, pelicans, and other seabirds, depending on the season. On the return, we paddle along the coastline of the peninsula, enjoying scenic views and calm waters.

What to Bring

Kayaking is a very low-impact activity—it doesn’t use a motor and is almost completely silent, making it ideal for enjoying nature without disturbing it.
By paying the entrance fee to the Paracas National Reserve, passengers are directly supporting the conservation of this protected natural area. During the tour, they will also have the chance to learn firsthand about sustainable resource practices, such as the cultivation of scallops by a local mariculture farmer.
In addition, they will gain valuable insights into the ecology, natural history, and cultural heritage of Paracas Bay, making this not only an adventure, but also a meaningful educational experience.

Luis Vereau, born in Lima and currently based in Paracas, leads a mariculture and sustainable experiential tourism project. He is an expert in ecotourism and sustainable travel, with academic training from the Outdoor Institute in Duluth, University of Minnesota. For over 10 years, he was involved in nature-based education projects in Scandinavia.
Luis is the first Peruvian certified by the American Canoe Association (ACA) as a whitewater and sea kayak instructor. He also served as vice president of the first national canoeing commission under the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD). He has led numerous first descents on remote rivers across Peru, and his pioneering spirit extends to sea kayaking, including the first circumnavigation of Lake Titicaca.
His sea kayaking project in the Paracas National Reserve was the first to receive a tourism use contract granted by SERNANP. Luis has kayaked extensively throughout the bay and all the islands within the Reserve’s boundaries.
With over 30 years of experience as a mountain and trekking guide in Cusco, Arequipa, and Huaraz, he also holds certification as a sailing captain, having sailed from Florida to Paracas aboard his own sailboat. In addition, he is a PADI-certified diver at the Rescue Diver and Divemaster levels.
Luis is also a nature photographer and writer, having published numerous articles and most recently the book “Río Huarango”, aimed at raising awareness and protecting the last native forests in the desert river oases of the Ica region.
The activity is considered moderate. While kayaking does require some physical effort, the pace is relaxed and frequent breaks are taken to rest, observe the surroundings, and enjoy the experience. It’s suitable for most people in generally good health, even without prior kayaking experience.
Yes, we have a support motorboat on standby throughout the experience. In case of fatigue, discomfort, or any unforeseen circumstance, assistance is readily available. Your safety and comfort are a top priority.
Paracas usually offers sunny and pleasant weather, especially in the morning. However, it can feel cool on the water, and moderate winds are common toward the end of the tour. We recommend wearing layers and bringing a light windbreaker for comfort.
Yes, filtered drinking water is available to all participants throughout the tour. We encourage guests to bring their own reusable water bottle to reduce plastic waste and stay hydrated during the paddle.
Yes, your hosts—including the local family involved in the tour—speak both Spanish and English. They are experienced in guiding international travelers and happy to share their knowledge in both languages.
Yes, this sea kayak tour is family-friendly. We advise a minimum age of 7 years old though. If your children are younger, please fill in the Enquiry Form and we’ll advise you about the possibilities.
