Day by Day Itinerary

Remember, this is just an example

Day 1Oxampampa, a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO

Upon arrival at Oxapampa a taxi driver will meet you at the bus station to take you directly to the Ecolodge. The ride is approximately 30 minutes. Welcome to your cozy retreat, where comfort meets nature.

The cabin offers a reliable internet connection, ensuring you can stay connected if needed. For communication, a walkie-talkie is provided.

The owners are always around as they live on the property and are happy to share and show you around. Spanish speaking guards are available 24/7 near the main gate, ready to assist and share local knowledge.

Embrace ecofriendly living with thoughtful waste management systems. Enjoy outdoor relaxation with amenities like a firepit, hammocks, and a river shore (30-minute walk).

Powered by solar energy, the cabin supports sustainable living, and the clean water system ensures pure drinking and household water. Immerse yourself in this tranquil, sustainable haven while experiencing the best of nature and comfort.

This day is yours to explore freely. Wander the marked trails through lush landscapes, where you can encounter vibrant wildlife, from hundreds of lively birds and wild Guinea Pigs to elusive creatures like the Neotropical Otter and Tayra. Also, keep an eye out for Two-Toed Sloth along the way. The Amazon Cloud Forest is a breathtakingly beautiful and captivating ecosystem, nestled where the Andes meet the Amazon. Known for its extraordinary biodiversity, it teems with unique flora and fauna.

In the coming days at the Ecolodge, the friendly guard (spanish-speaking) can accompany you on walks and guide you on an exciting nighttime forest adventure, where you might encounter nocturnal wildlife like monkeys and bats. (He loves to do so, and a tip is always appreciated!).

Visit the stables to meet Lucy, Tracey, and Sonchi, the cherished horses enjoying a peaceful life.

Each walking trail offers a distinct adventure. The easygoing blue trail is perfect for leisurely strolls, while the red trail challenges the intrepid with its steep hills and rewarding panoramic views.

Day 2Feeling right at home already!

At the Lodge’s Conservation Project, you get to dive into the world of nature protection and ecological agriculture. Join your hosts in using sustainable farming techniques like permaculture, syntropic forestry, and Hügelkultur. Imagine enriching the soil naturally, without a single pesticide or piece of heavy machinery in sight. You’ll be hands on, learning how to boost soil health and productivity with creative methods like minimal tillage and mulching.

But it’s not just about farming—it’s a journey towards sustainable agriculture and healthy eating: enjoy fresh produce that they cultivate themselves. Throughout your time at the lodge feel free to participate in their fun and educational workshops where you can experience the therapeutic benefits of gardening – both are happy to share their eco-friendly practices with you. Plan meals with your own harvest and discover the impact of your actions on the environment, all while enjoying fresh air and physical activity.

Ready to roll up your sleeves and have some fun with us? Let’s grow together!
(If you are up for a unique workout: ask about helping maintain the water channels.)

Today also offers more time to further explore the trails around the cabin or simply unwind at the comfortable lodge.

FYI: Oxapampa is home to an incredible variety of birds, from species found only in this region to others that flourish across Peru. As you wander through its forests and fields, keep your eyes sharp—something feathered and fascinating is never far away!

Day 3Your final full day—make it count!

Wake up to the soothing sounds of the forest and take this final day at your own pace.

Whether you’re in the mood for one last adventure along the scenic trails, diving deeper into permaculture, or simply unwinding in a hammock or on your terrace with a good book, today is yours to enjoy the lodge in your own way.

Perhaps you’ll revisit a favorite path, say goodbye to Lucy and the other horses at the stables, or quietly observe the birds and wildlife that have become familiar companions.

Savor your freshly prepared meals and soak up the peaceful surroundings one last time.

If you’re up for a little outing, ask the friendly guard to accompany you on a walk to the nearby Río Chontabamba — a lovely spot for a quiet break and maybe even a refreshing dip in the cool waters.

If you haven’t yet, this could also be the perfect moment for a final nighttime exploration, where the forest reveals its secret life after dark.

Use this last day to reflect on your connection with nature, the inspiring sustainability practices you’ve discovered, and the simple joys of life off the beaten path.

Let the place’s tranquil energy stay with you as you prepare for heading back to the outside world.

Day 4Goodbye, pretty cabin—hello to new adventures!

Today marks a bittersweet farewell to the peaceful rhythms and newfound friends at the lodge.

A driver, possibly Jolanda or Simone themselves, will take you back to Oxapampa, where you’ll either catch your bus to Lima or continue your journey through this beautiful region.

A tip for any day (or every day!)

Make a cozy campfire, sip on nice wine, and delicious snacks. These extras aren’t included in the cost, but you can easily purchase them with cash on-site.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get to Oxapampa by bus?

It’s super easy!

The most reliable option is movilbus, offering various seat categories depending on how far back the seats recline: 140°, 160°, or even 180° for a full-flat experience. They also provide services with different numbers of stops—ranging from 2 to 4—to pick up or drop off passengers along the route. Fewer stops make the journey shorter, while more stops give you…more bus time 🤣

What other destinations do you recommend before or after visiting Oxapampa?

Getting around (with or without movilbus) is a breeze! Nearby spots like San Ramón, La Merced, or Villa Rica are great options to explore before or after your trip to Oxapampa. And Pozuzo is certainly a must-visit in this region!

At Impactful Travel, we have contacts with indigenous communities offering travel experiences close to La Merced, or we can arrange for your vistis to Pozuzo. If you’d like to know more, please enquire for a custom trip to the central jungle of Peru (of at least six consecutive days).

Wouldn't I get bored spending three days at a forest cabin?

This experience is perfect for true nature lovers, permaculturists, birdwatchers, or anyone who embraces the art of doing nothing—just sitting back and savoring a good book.

If you see yourself in any of these categories—or perhaps somewhere in between—this 3-Day Escape to a Private Cabin in Oxapampa’s Peruvian Forest is made for you.

What is the weather like?

The weather in Oxapampa is typically mild and refreshing, with cool early mornings and evenings, but also hot afternoons. Expect a mix of cloudy skies and occasional rain with sunny humid days, perfect for enjoying the lush greenery and serene atmosphere of the Peruvian forest. It’s the kind of climate that invites you to slow down and soak in nature’s beauty.
