Travel Designer and Content and Engagement Lead
A passionate biologist and primatologist, Sara first ventured to Latin America to pursue her master’s thesis in Ecuador’s Chocó forest. Immersed in conservation work across remote corners of Latin America, she discovered not only the wonders of pristine nature but also the resilience and richness of local communities. Over the years, she has traveled extensively on her own, deepening her understanding of how tourism can help protect both cultural heritage and natural ecosystems.
Driven by this conviction, Sara took a year away from her former job to explore Latin America independently, supporting locally led tourism initiatives and community-based conservation projects. She later joined Impactful Travel, where she now works as a travel designer and as the lead for content and engagement.
Now based in Cusco, Peru, Sara is actively involved in developing new trips and experiences for Impactful Travel in destinations such as Ecuador and Costa Rica—places she knows well and is excited to share with more travelers. Her favorite journeys combine wildlife encounters, time in nature, and countless opportunities to connect with local communities and make friends who stay in your heart long after you return home.
In Peru, I love how food is so much more than just a meal—it’s a celebration. One of my favorite experiences is sharing a pachamanca in the Andes, where everything is cooked on hot stones buried in the earth. Everyone takes part in the preparation, and it feels like a beautiful ritual that connects you to the land, the community, and the incredible flavors.
In Ecuador, I’m always struck by how much diversity is packed into a small country. Within just a short journey, you can go from the Amazon rainforest to the high Andes and then down to the coast. Each region feels completely unique, like discovering a new side of Ecuador every time you travel.
And in Costa Rica, there’s a reason everyone says “pura vida” so often—it’s not just a phrase, it’s an attitude. The whole country invites you to slow down, appreciate the moment, and enjoy life, and the warmth of the people makes it even easier to do just that.
As a biologist, I love traveling and discovering the wonders of the world. But through my work in sustainability, I’ve also seen firsthand how damaging irresponsible tourism can be. At the same time, I believe that traveling slowly and with sustainability in mind can have the opposite effect: it can help protect places and cultures, while bringing meaningful income to local communities. I wanted a job that combined my passion for travel with my background in conservation, and working for a responsible agency like Impactful Travel has given me exactly that.
I enjoy working closely with travelers to make them active participants in designing their trips. This way, they feel connected to the journey from the very start and confident that it truly reflects what they’re looking for. When they have questions or feel unsure, I often share my own experiences in these places—how I prepared, what I discovered, and what it was really like to be there. It helps them feel reassured and excited, knowing someone has already been in their shoes and can offer genuine, firsthand advice.
